I often find it tricky to describe my work succinctly because I wear many different hats! Composer, singer, facilitator, producer and more recently a maker of immersive shows.
I have been making music in one way or another for most of my life and it is the thing I love to do more than anything.
I am often imagining pictures and stories as I write music. I want to invite you into a landscape of story and metaphor that I think runs through my collection of music. It can hop about a bit from folk to music for deep relaxation, urgent filmic soundtrack to electronica and back again!
Recently Ive been making more electronic music and soundscapes. I love to combine a voiceover and a story within a track, usually just a hint to allow the listener space for their own interpretation.
I've been thinking a lot about my ancestors and particularly the female line, a succession of women going back through time. This idea is reflected in my album "I Heard The Moon Is In C"; most prominently in the track "Motherline".
I have a deep appreciation of an 'ancestral line' of women pioneers in electronic music; the extraordinary wonder of mathematics; and the catharsis of expressing things in music that are too difficult to say in words.
The free track is called "Drive". It's from the album "I Heard The Moon Is In C". It's a synth pop homage to 80s teenage angst, written from a grown-up vantage point.
